On Thursday 27th April 2017 (7.45pm) our guest speaker will be the former England, Essex, Glamorgan and Suffolk CCC leg-spinner Robin Hobbs.
Robin, a lovely man and a good cricketer, was a brilliant fielder – Graham Gooch
It would be impossible to spend a few hours on a cricket field with Robin Hobbs without feeling younger and the load lighter. He is a brilliant fielder and has the knack of being able to combine attacking, combative cricket with a twinkle in his eye – Colin Cowdrey
Robin was not only a talented and wholehearted cricketer but he was also a very funny man, one of the most comical characters I have ever met in cricket – Keith Fletcher
Robin in his prime for Essex, as depicted by Jack Holmes.
Robin played in 440 first class matches and is the last English leg-spinner to have taken over 1,000 first class wickets. He also played seven Test matches for England from 1967-1971 playing alongside Geoff Boycott, Brian Close, Colin Cowdrey, Tom Graveney and Ken Barrington.
