November 2014 – Mike Selvey

A cracking evening as Mike Selvey gave us a potted history of his career and treated us to some wonderful anecdotes from both his playing days and his career as a journalist.

It was fascinating to hear at first hand what it was like bowling to the great Viv Richards and how it felt to bat against Michael Holding and the other great West Indian quicks.

My favourite story of the night was of Mike being told he shouldn’t bowl in one particular game in his youth because there were only cheap wickets of offer, “I’m not interested in expensive ones!” was his reply.

It was great to see such a good sized crowd and for several new members to join. Many thanks to Adnams, Uniquely Magazines and the Dray Yard Smokehouse for their support in putting on the event.
